TULSA, Okla. – Griffin Communications announced today that the Oklahoma’s Own Original, “Tulsa Race Massacre: 100 Years Later” will air Friday, May 28 at 8 p.m. on both News On 6 and News 9 commercial free.

The one-hour television special will remember the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre – one of Tulsa’s darkest days – ahead of the centennial.

Once considered one of the most prosperous African-American communities in the nation, Tulsa’s Black Wall Street was burned to ashes in a horrific act of racial violence that occurred from May 31 to June 1, 1921. The destruction of the Greenwood District was devastating with 35 city blocks destroyed and many lives lost.

“The Tulsa Race Massacre is a tragic part of Oklahoma’s past that cannot be forgotten,” said Houston Hunt, Griffin Communications’ Vice President of Marketing. “We invite our viewers to join us in remembering and reflecting on what transpired over those two horrific days while also focusing on our community’s efforts towards reconciliation and revival.”

“Tulsa Race Massacre: 100 Years Later” will include firsthand accounts from survivors as they share what happened before, during and after the attack on Greenwood. The special will also include stories from other cities where violent racial acts have taken place and what Tulsa can learn from them.

We’ll share how Oklahoma teachers are making sure future generations are educated about the Tulsa Race Massacre. The special will also include the current search for possible mass graves in Tulsa, and we'll look ahead to where the search for answers and fight for justice goes from here.

“Oklahoma’s Own Originals: Tulsa Race Massacre: 100 Years Later” will air commercial free on Friday, May 28 from 8 – 9 p.m. statewide on both News On 6 and News 9. The special will also be available to watch online at NewsOn6.com and News9.com and through our OTT apps available to download for free on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
