OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Oklahoma's unpredictable weather is a constant source of excitement and fear to locals and outsiders alike. As part of our mission to keep Oklahomans safe and informed, News 9 will be airing our “Oklahoma’s Own Originals: Ahead of the Storm” severe weather special on Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m.

"This year's special is jam-packed from start to finish with interesting and useful information about the upcoming storm season," said Kylie Frakes, News 9 Executive Producer of Special Projects. "You definitely won’t want to miss David interviewing SkyNews 9 pilot Jim Gardner about storm chasing in the sky."

“So excited to be a part of this year’s special!” said Chief Meteorologist David Payne. “We’ve set tornado records for December, January & February and we’ll look at where we’re headed now. Is Tornado Alley shifting? We'll look at the data. Plus, I’ll share my spring severe weather forecast for the next few months. And, we’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like on a severe weather day – both in the studio and out in the field!”

Presented by News 9 & Scissortail Roofing and Construction, “Ahead of the Storm” will also show viewers our new, state-of-the-art weather center. Val & Amy Castor share what it was like working on the film “Supercell”, and we’ll look back at the devastating May 20, 2013 tornado in Moore, 10 years later.

News 9 will air “Oklahoma’s Own Originals: Ahead of the Storm” on Thursday, March 30 from 6:30-7:00 p.m.

“Oklahoma’s Own Originals: Ahead of the Storm” joins our lineup of original programming that we’re proud to share with our viewers on News 9, News9.com and through our streaming app on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.
